Intellistor Help & FAQs
What is on-demand colour label printing?
On-demand colour label printing allows you to print vibrant, full-colour labels as you need them, without minimum order quantities. This eliminates the need to pre-order large quantities of pre-printed labels, reducing waste and allowing you to print variable data, multiple designs, or small batches cost-effectively.
What are the benefits of printing labels in-house?
In-house label printing gives you complete control over your labelling needs. Key benefits include:
- Print exactly the quantity you need, from one label to thousands
- No minimum order requirements or long lead times
- Update designs, information, or branding instantly
- Reduce inventory costs by eliminating pre-printed label stock
- Create customized labels for seasonal products, promotions, or compliance updates
Faster turnaround for product launches and design changes
What industries use colour label printers?
Colour label printers serve diverse industries including food and beverage, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, craft brewing and distilling, manufacturing, logistics, retail, healthcare, chemicals (GHS compliance), events management, and small to medium enterprises requiring product labelling.
How do I choose the right colour label printer for my business?
Choosing the right printer depends on several factors:
- Print Volume: How many labels do you print daily/weekly?
- Label Width: Maximum label size you need (from 4″ to 8.5″ width)
- Print Technology: Inkjet (Epson, Afinia) vs. LED toner (OKI)
- Durability Requirements: Indoor vs. outdoor use, water resistance, UV resistance
- Budget: Initial investment and ongoing consumable costs
- Print Speed: Labels per minute requirements

What's the difference between Epson, Afinia, and OKI printers?
Epson ColorWorks printers use PrecisionCore inkjet technology, offering vibrant colours and are ideal for short to medium-run label production with various label sizes (C4000 to C8000 series).
Afinia Label printers use Memjet technology for high-speed inkjet printing, perfect for businesses needing faster output with excellent colour quality (L502, L701, L801, L901 series).
OKIÂ printers use LED toner technology, providing exceptional durability, water and chemical resistance, making them ideal for harsh environments and outdoor applications (C650, Pro1040, Pro1050, Pro9431, Pro9542).
Can I print variable data on my labels?
Yes! All RUXO colour label printers support variable data printing. You can print unique barcodes, serial numbers, batch codes, expiration dates, QR codes, and personalized information on each label. This is powered by label design software like NiceLabel / Loftware, which Intellistor also supplies.
What print speeds can I expect?
Print speeds vary by model:
- Epson ColorWorks: 100 – 300mm per second depending on model
- Afinia Label: Up to 300mm per second (Memjet technology)
- OKI LED: 150mm – 250mm per second depending on model
Actual speeds depend on label complexity, resolution settings, and coverage.

What's the difference between paper and synthetic labels?
Paper labels (matt or gloss) are cost-effective and perfect for indoor use, dry environments, and products with shorter shelf lives. They provide excellent print quality and are ideal for food products, craft beverages, and retail items.
Synthetic labels (PP or polyester) offer superior durability, water resistance, tear resistance, and chemical resistance. They’re essential for products exposed to moisture, refrigeration, outdoor conditions, or harsh environments like industrial settings.
Are RUXO labels waterproof?
Certain RUXO labels are waterproof, specifically our PP (Polypropylene) and Synthetic materials. These labels combined with appropriate printers (like OKI LED toner printers) create waterproof labels suitable for bath products, beverages, outdoor equipment, and refrigerated items.
What are the ongoing costs for colour label printing?
The main ongoing costs are ink cartridges or toner cartridges and label materials. RUXO supplies all cartridges and toners for the printers we sell:
- Epson cartridges: Available for all ColorWorks models (C3500, C4000, C6000, C6500, C7500, C7500G, C8000)
- Afinia cartridges: Available for L502, L701, L801, L901
- OKI toners: Available for C650, Pro1040, Pro1050, Pro9431, Pro9541, Pro9542
Cost per label varies based on coverage, label size, and printer model but is typically much lower than outsourcing or pre-printed labels.
How many labels can I print per cartridge/toner?
Label yield depends on coverage percentage, label size, and design complexity:
- Epson and Afinia inkjet cartridges typically print 1,000-1,500 full-colour labels at standard coverage
- OKI LED toners print 3,000-5,000+ labels depending on model and coverage
